Target Information
Natural killer (NK) cells are lymphocytes that mediate lysis of certain tumor cells and virus-infected cells without prior activation. They also regulate humoral and cell-mediated immunity.
This protein belongs to the killer cell lectin-like receptor family (NKG2 family), a group of transmembrane proteins preferentially expressed in NK cells. These proteins have type II membrane orientation and a C-type lectin domain.
It forms a complex with KLRD1/CD94 and is involved in recognition of MHC class I HLA-E molecules in NK cells. NKG2 family genes form a receptor gene cluster on chromosome 12. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding two distinct isoforms have been observed.
