FAM13B is a 915 amino acid protein encoded by a gene located on human chromosome 5. Chromosome 5, comprising approximately 181 million base pairs and around 1,000 genes, represents about 6% of human genomic DNA.
It is associated with several genetic conditions, including:
- Cockayne syndrome (ERCC8 gene)
- Familial adenomatous polyposis (APC tumor suppressor gene)
- Treacher Collins syndrome (TCOF1 gene)
- Cri du chat syndrome (deletion of p arm of chromosome 5)
- Therapy-related acute myelogenous leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome (deletion of 5q or entire chromosome 5)
