Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the highly conserved cyclin family, characterized by periodic changes in protein abundance during the cell cycle. Cyclins regulate CDK kinases, and different cyclins show distinct expression and degradation patterns that coordinate mitotic events. Cyclin D3 forms a complex with CDK4 or CDK6, acting as a regulatory subunit required for the G1/S transition. It is involved in the phosphorylation of tumor suppressor protein Rb and contributes to cell cycle progression through G2 phase into mitosis after UV radiation. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified. Diseases associated with CCND3 include Retinoblastoma and Plasma Cell Leukemia.
