Target Information
Transducin is a three-subunit guanine nucleotide-binding protein (G protein) that mediates coupling between rhodopsin and cGMP-phosphodiesterase during visual signal transduction. The alpha subunits in rods and cones are encoded by separate genes, with this gene encoding the rod-specific alpha subunit. It is also expressed in other cell types and is involved in bitter taste transduction in rat taste cells. Mutations in this gene cause autosomal dominant congenital stationary night blindness. Multiple alternatively spliced variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
