Product Specific Information

Monoclonal antibody F3 binds and neutralizes both natural and recombinant mouse gamma Interferon.
IFN-gamma, also called Type II interferon, is a homodimeric glycoprotein containing approximately 21–24 kD subunits. The human IFN-gamma gene, situated on chromosome 12, contains three introns; the four exons code for a polypeptide of 166 amino acids, 20 of which constitute the signal peptide.
In contrast to IFN-alpha and IFN-beta synthesis, which can occur in any cell, production of IFN-gamma is a function of T cells and NK cells.
IFN-gamma has antiviral and antiparasitic activities and also inhibits the proliferation of a number of normal and transformed cells. It synergizes with TNF-alpha and TNF-beta in inhibiting cell proliferation.

Target Information

IFN gamma (Interferon gamma, Type II interferon) is a macrophage activation factor and immune interferon produced primarily by T-lymphocytes and natural killer cells in response to antigens, mitogens, and cytokines.
It is a dimeric glycoprotein consisting of two 146 amino acid subunits, forming a functional homodimer of approximately 45 kDa. On SDS-PAGE, IFN gamma appears as 25, 20, and minor 15.5 kDa bands due to differential glycosylation.
The biological activity of IFN gamma is highly species-specific; human IFN gamma does not cross-react with mouse IFN gamma.
Functions include antiviral activity, tumor antiproliferative activity, induction of MHC class I and II, macrophage activation, and enhanced immunoglobulin secretion by B lymphocytes.
Activation occurs via IFN gamma receptor I and II, leading to JAK-STAT pathway signaling.
Human IFN gamma shows about 40% sequence homology with mouse IFN gamma. It is upregulated by IL2, FGF basic, EGF, and downregulated by vitamin D3 or DMN. Mutations in the IFN gamma gene are associated with aplastic anemia.
