Target Information
DERL1 is a functional component of endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD) for misfolded lumenal proteins. It may form a channel that enables retrotranslocation of misfolded proteins into the cytosol for ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation. DERL1 mediates interactions between VCP and degradation substrates and plays a key role in cytomegalovirus infection by facilitating degradation of MHC class I heavy chains via US11 viral protein interaction. Also involved in the degradation of misfolded cytomegalovirus US2 protein.
