Target Information
Prohibitin is an evolutionarily conserved gene that is ubiquitously expressed. It acts as a negative regulator of cell proliferation and may serve as a tumor suppressor. Mutations in PHB have been associated with sporadic breast cancer. Prohibitin is expressed as two transcripts with varying lengths of the 3′ untranslated region, with the longer transcript found at higher levels in proliferating tissues and cells, suggesting a regulatory role as a trans-acting RNA.
