Target Information
Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a key regulator of blood vessel development in embryos and angiogenesis in adult tissues.
VEGFC specifically stimulates lymphatic vessel growth via its receptor VEGFR-3.
Inactivation of VEGFR-3 in mice results in defective blood vessel development, abnormal lumen formation, and cardiovascular failure at embryonic day 9.5.
Thus, VEGFR-3 plays an essential role in embryonic cardiovascular development prior to lymphatic vessel formation.
