Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 3 (TIMP3)는 metalloproteinases(MMP)의 활성을 억제하는 단백질로, 세포외 기질(extracellular matrix)의 분해를 조절합니다.
TIMP3는 유사분열 자극 시 발현되며, 아연 의존성 MMP에 비가역적으로 결합하여 그 촉매 작용을 억제합니다.
또한 신경계 발달, 조직 재생, 시각 인식 등 다양한 생리적 과정에 관여합니다.
인간에서 TIMP3 유전자는 염색체 22번에 위치합니다.
