Product Specific Information
Reconstitute in sterile water to 0.1 mg/mL. Centrifuge vial before opening. Suspend the product by gently pipetting the recommended solution down the sides of the vial. DO NOT VORTEX. Allow several minutes for complete reconstitution.
If a precipitate is observed, centrifuge thoroughly and use only the soluble fraction. A 10% overfill is included to compensate for potential loss in precipitate.
For prolonged storage, dilute to working aliquots in 0.1% BSA solution, store at -80°C and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Target Information
IFN gamma (Interferon gamma, Type II interferon) is a macrophage activation factor produced primarily by T-lymphocytes and natural killer cells in response to antigens, mitogens, and cytokines.
It is a dimeric glycoprotein of two 146 amino acid subunits (~45 kDa). On SDS-PAGE, IFN gamma appears as 25, 20, and minor 15.5 kDa bands due to differential glycosylation.
The biological activity of IFN gamma homodimer is highly species-specific; human IFN gamma does not cross-react with mouse.
Functions include:
- Antiviral and tumor antiproliferative activity
- Induction of MHC class I and II
- Macrophage activation
- Enhanced immunoglobulin secretion by B lymphocytes
- Cytokine regulation and synergistic action with other cytokines
Activation occurs via IFN gamma receptor I and II, initiating the JAK-STAT pathway.
Human IFN gamma shows ~40% sequence homology with mouse IFN gamma.
Upregulated by IL2, FGF basic, EGF; downregulated by vitamin D3 or DMN.
Gene mutations are associated with aplastic anemia.
