GDF9는 bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) 계열 및 TGF-beta superfamily에 속하는 단백질로, 폴리베이직 절단 부위를 통해 성숙 단백질로 전환되며 7개의 보존된 시스테인 잔기를 포함합니다.
이 계열의 단백질은 배아 및 성체 조직에서 세포 성장과 분화를 조절합니다.
난소의 체세포에서 합성되는 성장 인자는 난자의 성장과 기능에 직접적인 영향을 미치며, GDF9는 난자에서 발현되어 난포 형성(ovarian folliculogenesis)에 필수적인 역할을 하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
