Target Information
Human malignant neoplasms carry rejection antigens recognized by autologous, tumor-directed, cytolytic CD8+ T lymphocyte clones (CTLs).
The MAGE gene family encodes melanoma-associated antigens (MAAs).
MAGE-1 is expressed in various human neoplasms (melanoma, brain tumors, neuroblastoma, non-small cell lung cancer, breast, gastric, colorectal, ovarian, renal cell carcinomas) but not in normal tissues.
Thus, the encoded antigen may serve as a marker for early detection and a potential target for cancer immunotherapy.
