Target Information
Two distinct signaling pathways activate host innate immunity against viral infection. One pathway relies on Toll-like receptor (TLR) family members, while the other uses RNA helicase RIG-I as a receptor for intracellular viral double-stranded RNA.
MAVS is a mitochondrial membrane protein crucial for IFN-beta signaling, recruiting IRF-3 to RIG-I and activating NF-kappa-B.
MAVS interacts with innate immune components such as TRIF, TRAF2, TRAF6, and IKK kinases (IKK-alpha, IKK-beta, IKK-iota).
Cleavage of MAVS by Hepatitis C virus protease allows viral immune evasion. Multiple isoforms of MAVS are known to exist.
