Target Information
DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), are putative RNA helicases. They are involved in various cellular processes requiring RNA secondary structure alteration, such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly.
Some members of this family are associated with embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division.
This gene encodes a DEAD box protein functioning as an ATPase activated by RNA species but not by dsDNA. DDX17 and DDX5 are closely related members of this family. Multiple isoforms can be produced via alternative splicing and translation initiation codons, including a non-AUG (CUG) start codon.
