Target Information

CAMK2B (CaMKII beta) is a serine/threonine kinase involved in synaptic plasticity, synaptic vesicle mobilization, and regulation of gene expression. It functions as a dominant kinase in the central nervous system, contributing to long-term potentiation and neurotransmitter release.
There are four CaMKII isozymes—alpha, beta, gamma, and delta—which may be co-expressed in the same tissue type. CaMKII alpha is autophosphorylated on Thr286 upon Ca²⁺/CaM binding to its autoinhibitory domain, a process known as Ca²⁺/CaM trapping, thought to be involved in synaptic information encoding.
