Target Information
Forkhead-box J1 (FOXJ1) is a 421-amino acid transcription factor that suppresses T cell activity and spontaneous autoimmunity through repression of NF-κB activity. It also inhibits humoral immune response in B cells. FOXJ1 deficiency in B cells leads to spontaneous and accentuated germinal center formation, contributing to pathogenic autoantibody development and enhanced immunization responses. Abnormal FOXJ1 expression may be associated with autoimmune or inflammatory diseases. FOXJ1 is also essential for cilia formation and left-right axis determination by increasing calpastatin expression, which anchors basal bodies to the apical cytoskeleton. FOXJ1 expression serves as an early marker of epithelial cell differentiation, recovery, and function.
