Target Information
The human alanyl-tRNA synthetase (AARS) belongs to a family of tRNA synthases, class II enzymes. These enzymes evolved early and are highly conserved. The 968-residue human AARS shares 41% identity with the E. coli protein.
tRNA synthases interpret the RNA code and attach specific amino acids to tRNAs containing the corresponding anticodons. They consist of a catalytic domain interacting with the amino acid acceptor-TψC helix of the tRNA, and a second domain interacting with the rest of the tRNA structure.
