Target Information
POT1 is a component of the telomerase ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complex essential for replication of chromosome termini. It is part of the double-stranded telomeric DNA-binding TRF1 complex, regulating telomere length via cis-inhibition of telomerase. POT1 also acts as a single-stranded telomeric DNA-binding protein, potentially transducing telomere maintenance signals to the terminus. It binds specifically to telomeric single-stranded 5'-TTAGGG-3' repeats and the minimal sequence 5'-TAGGGTTAG-3'. Its activity is TERT-dependent but does not increase TERT activity.
