Cytokeratin pan belongs to a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides.
Cytokeratins have molecular weights between 40–68 kDa and isoelectric points between pH 4.9–7.8.
Each cytokeratin subtype is numbered 1–20 and shows distinct expression patterns depending on epithelial type and differentiation stage.
These patterns are valuable for distinguishing epithelial malignancies and are widely used in tumor diagnosis, cytopathology, and flow cytometry.
Keratins serve as useful markers in cancer research and tumor differentiation studies.
