The AutoMate Express Forensic DNA Extraction System is an easy-to-use, robust bench-top instrument that utilizes the PrepFiler Express and PrepFiler Express BTA chemistries packaged in pre-filled, foil-sealed cartridges. The PrepFiler chemistry is designed to improve the quantity and quality of DNA isolated from forensic samples, thereby increasing the potential to obtain maximum information from downstream Short Tandem Repeat (STR) analysis.

PrepFiler Express Kit Format and Components

The AutoMate Express System uses two configurations of PrepFiler Chemistry:

• PrepFiler Express Forensic DNA Extraction Kit: For standard forensic samples such as bodily fluids on substrates (FTA paper, cotton swabs, cloth, denim, etc.)
• PrepFiler Express BTA Forensic DNA Extraction Kit: For challenging samples such as bones, teeth, cigarette butts, and tape lifts

Both kits include all reagents and plastic components, including PrepFiler LySep Columns, to perform 52 DNA extractions on the AutoMate Express Instrument.

Streamlined Off-Line Lysis

The PrepFiler Express Kits feature the innovative PrepFiler LySep Column, which simplifies the off-line lysis process. Lysis buffer and sample are added directly to the column for incubation. After centrifugation, the lysate flows through the burstable membrane while the substrate remains in the column. The prepared tube is then ready for placement on the AutoMate Express instrument, eliminating manual transfer steps and reducing cross-contamination and sample mix-up risks.
