Myeloperoxidase (MPO)는 골수 분화 과정에서 합성되는 헴 단백질로, 호중구의 아주로필성 과립에 주요하게 존재합니다. 단일 사슬 전구체로 생성되어 이후 경쇄(light chain)와 중쇄(heavy chain)로 절단되며, 성숙한 MPO는 2개의 경쇄와 2개의 중쇄로 구성된 4량체 형태를 가집니다. 이 효소는 호중구의 미생물 살균 작용에 중심적인 역할을 하는 hypohalous acids를 생성합니다. MPO 관련 질환으로는 Myeloperoxidase Deficiency 및 Alzheimer’s Disease, Familial, 1 등이 있습니다.
