Target Information
BMP15 (Bone Morphogenetic Protein 15), also known as GDF9B, is a member of the bone morphogenetic protein family, part of the transforming growth factor-beta superfamily. These proteins are involved in embryonic development and adult tissue homeostasis. BMP15 is expressed exclusively in the oocyte and functions as an oocyte-specific growth/differentiation factor involved in oocyte maturation and follicular development.
Defects in BMP15 are associated with ovarian dysgenesis type 2. BMP15 can serve as a marker for oogenesis and may be used to track differentiation of human amniotic fluid stem cells into oocyte-like cells.
