Target Information

This gene belongs to the protocadherin beta gene cluster, one of three related clusters located on chromosome 5. These clusters have an unusual genomic organization similar to B-cell and T-cell receptor gene clusters.
The beta cluster includes 16 genes and 3 pseudogenes, each encoding six extracellular cadherin domains and a unique cytoplasmic tail. These domains interact homophilically to mediate specific cell-cell connections.
Unlike the alpha and gamma clusters, transcripts from beta cluster genes consist of a single large exon. These neural cadherin-like adhesion proteins are integral membrane proteins thought to play a key role in establishing and maintaining specific neuronal connections.
