Target Information
Cytochrome C is an electron-transporting protein located in the mitochondrial intermembrane space, playing a crucial role in oxidative phosphorylation and ATP production.
Release of cytochrome C into the cytosol occurs upon apoptotic stimuli, where it binds apoptotic protease activating factor, activating procaspase 9.
Cytosolic cytochrome C also activates caspase 3, an essential effector of apoptosis.
