Target Information
Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) belongs to the insulin receptor superfamily and is vital for brain development. Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications in the ALK gene have been found in tumors, including anaplastic large cell lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and non-small cell lung cancer. Chromosomal rearrangement commonly creates a fusion gene consisting of ALK and nucleophosmin (NPM).
The NPM-ALK fusion gene product is oncogenic. ALK encodes a receptor protein-tyrosine kinase with transmembrane and extracellular domains, which are absent in the NPM-ALK product. ALK shows high sequence similarity to LTK and plays an important role in neuronal development.
