Target Information
Metadherin (Metastasis adhesion protein), also known as MTDH or LYRIC, is a novel protein localized with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It is not a structural component but is recruited during tight junction maturation. Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissues and xenografts, while lower levels are observed in normal breast tissue. It binds to lung vasculature, one of the major sites of breast cancer metastasis, via a C-terminal segment in its extracellular domain. Blocking this domain or inhibiting metadherin expression has been reported to reduce breast cancer metastasis.
