The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum using an epitope-specific immunogen. Purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.

Target Information

Guanylate cyclases belong to the adenylyl cyclase class-4/guanylyl cyclase family. There are two forms of guanylate cyclase: a soluble form (GCS or sGC), which acts as a receptor for nitric oxide, and a membrane-bound receptor form (GC), which functions as a peptide hormone receptor.

The GC-C protein consists of:

• An extracellular domain
• A single transmembrane domain
• A cytoplasmic region with a kinase-like and catalytic domain

It exists as two glycosylated forms:

• 130 kDa precursor form in the endoplasmic reticulum
• 145 kDa mature form on the plasma membrane

Ligand binding to the extracellular domain of GC-C increases cGMP accumulation. GC-C serves as the receptor for heat-stable enterotoxins from certain pathogenic E. coli strains, leading to secretory diarrhea. It also binds guanylin and uroguanylin peptides, which regulate renal function in response to salt intake.
