Target Information

MRPL12 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein L12), also known as 5c5-2, L12mt, MRPL7, or RPML12, is a mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal protein involved in protein synthesis within the mitochondrion.
MRPL12 expression increases in growth-stimulated cells due to transcriptional activation, suggesting a role as a translational regulator of mitochondrial mRNAs.
Deficiency of MRPL12 reduces cell growth rate, decreases mitochondrial ATP production, and abolishes oxidative phosphorylation.
It is cleaved during translocation across the mitochondrial membrane and forms dimers that bind the large ribosomal subunit.
MRPL12 consists of 198 amino acids, belongs to the ribosomal protein L12P family, and is highly expressed in the colon.
