Target Information
Gross cystic disease of the breast is a benign premenopausal disorder characterized by cyst formation due to excessive apocrine secretions. The cyst fluid contains several glycoproteins, including the unique 15 kDa monomer protein GCDFP15 (Gross Cystic Disease Fluid Protein-15). GCDFP15 is present in apocrine epithelia, lacrimal, ceruminous, and Moll’s glands, as well as in serous cells of submandibular, tracheal, bronchial, sublingual, and minor salivary glands. It is co-expressed with prostate-specific antigen in androgen receptor-positive breast tumors.
