The polyclonal antibody reacts with human interleukin-13 (IL-13). IL-13, also known as NC30, is a 12.5 kDa protein secreted by activated T helper cells, CD8⁺ T cells, and NK cells.
Its biological activities include:

• Suppression of macrophage cytotoxic activity
• Upregulation of IL-1RA expression
• Suppression of inflammatory cytokine expression

Applications Reported:
The biotinylated anti-human IL-13 polyclonal antibody has been reported for use in ELISA and ELISPOT.

Applications Tested:
Used as the detection antibody in a sandwich ELISA for analysis of human IL-13, in combination with the purified PVM13-1 (14-7139) antibody for capture and recombinant human IL-13 (14-8139) as the standard.
Recommended ELISA detection concentration: 0.5–2 µg/mL.
A standard curve with recombinant cytokine (1000 pg/mL – 8 pg/mL) should be included in each ELISA plate.

Target Information

IL-13 is an immunoregulatory cytokine produced primarily by activated Th2 cells, involved in regulating inflammatory and immune responses.
Key functions include:

• Down-regulation of macrophage activity and inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokine production
• Involvement in allergen-induced asthma independent of IgE and eosinophils
• Regulation of B cell maturation and differentiation
• Up-regulation of CD23 and MHC class II expression
• Promotion of IgE isotype switching

Structurally, IL-13 resembles IL-3, IL-4, IL-5, and GM-CSF.
The IL13 gene is part of a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5q, located near IL4.
