Target Information
MAPK10 (JNK3) is a neuronal-specific form of c-Jun N-terminal kinases (JNKs) involved in neuronal apoptosis and phosphorylates MAP2K4. MAP kinases serve as integration points for multiple biochemical signals and participate in cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, transcription regulation, and development.
This kinase plays regulatory roles during neuronal apoptosis through phosphorylation and nuclear localization. Beta-arrestin 2 interacts with and stimulates phosphorylation of JNK3 by MAP kinase kinase 4 (NhpK4). Cyclin-dependent kinase 5 can phosphorylate and inhibit JNK3 activity, potentially preventing neuronal apoptosis. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
