Target Information
The HSP70 family is a group of highly conserved proteins induced by various biological stresses, including heat stress. Human HSP70 family members include:
- HSP70: Strongly inducible in all organisms, constitutively expressed in primate cells
- HSP72: 72 kDa protein induced exclusively under stress conditions
- HSC70 (HSC71, HSC73, HSP73, p72, prp73): 72 kDa constitutively expressed protein involved in uncoating clathrin-coated vesicles
- GRP78 (BiP): 78 kDa protein localized in the endoplasmic reticulum
- p75 (HSP75): 75 kDa mitochondrial protein
HSC70 binds to clathrin light chains to promote uncoating and can also associate with the cytoskeleton, facilitating rearrangements. It plays roles in lysosomal degradation of intracellular proteins and modulates folding of mitochondrial precursor proteins in vitro.
