Target Information
Somatostatin is a multifunctional protein that affects exocrine and endocrine secretion, neurotransmission, and neuronal modulation, regulating cell proliferation. These functions are mediated through somatostatin receptor (SSTR) family members.
SSTR5, a 364 amino acid GPCR subtype, is predominantly expressed in the pituitary and hypothalamus regions of the brain. It contains seven transmembrane regions and can form homodimers and heterodimers (e.g., with SSTR1). SSTR5 complements SSTR2 in regulating ACTH secretion. Polymorphisms in the SSTR5 gene have been observed in patients with acromegaly.
