Target Information
AHR (Ah Receptor) is a ligand-activated transcription factor that forms a dimer with ARNT and belongs to the PAS domain protein family. It regulates biological responses to planar aromatic hydrocarbons and controls transcription of xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes such as cytochrome P450.
AHR is found in various tissues and binds to specific DNA enhancer sequences to initiate transcription of CYPIA1. Known ligands include polycyclic and halogenated aromatic compounds such as TCDD.
In resting cells, AHR complexes with HSP90 in the cytoplasm; upon ligand binding, it translocates to the nucleus, dissociates from HSP90, and forms a heterodimer with ARNT.
Diseases associated with AHR include eosinophilic fasciitis and seborrheic dermatitis.
