Target Information

cAMP is a signaling molecule important for various cellular functions. It activates the cAMP-dependent protein kinase (AMPK), which phosphorylates target proteins. The inactive holoenzyme of AMPK consists of two regulatory and two catalytic subunits. Upon cAMP binding, the holoenzyme dissociates into regulatory dimers bound to cAMP and free catalytic monomers. Humans possess four regulatory and three catalytic subunits of AMPK. The protein encoded by this gene is one of the regulatory subunits, which can be phosphorylated by the catalytic subunit and interacts with A-kinase anchoring proteins to determine AMPK localization.
