Target Information
The COL gene family encodes multiple collagen chain types, including fibril-forming interstitial collagens (types I, II, III, and V) and basement membrane collagens (type IV). Collagens are fibrous extracellular matrix proteins with high tensile strength and are major components of connective tissues such as tendons and cartilage. They contain a triple helix domain and often exhibit lateral self-association to form complex connective structures. Collagens also contribute to cell adhesion, maintaining normal tissue architecture and function.
