Target Information
West Nile Virus (WNV)는 Flaviviridae 계열의 양가닥 RNA 바이러스로, St. Louis encephalitis virus, yellow fever virus, Dengue virus 등을 포함합니다. 1937년 우간다의 West Nile 지역에서 처음 분리되어 아프리카, 아시아, 유럽 전역으로 확산되었으며, 현재 미국 전역에서도 관찰됩니다.
바이러스 입자는 RNA 게놈을 둘러싼 코어/캡시드 단백질로 구성된 밀집된 코어와, 세포 침투에 중요한 역할을 하는 Envelope 및 Matrix 단백질이 포함된 막으로 이루어져 있습니다.
WNV 코어 단백질은 caspase-9 경로를 통한 세포자멸사(apoptosis)를 유도하여 염증을 일으키는 것으로 알려져 있으며, 생쥐 뇌 및 골격근에 코어 유전자를 전달할 경우 세포 사멸과 염증 반응이 유발됩니다.
