Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the kinesin 4 or subfamily of kinesin-related proteins, also referred to as chromokinesins. The encoded protein is an ATP-dependent microtubule-based motor protein involved in intracellular transport of membranous organelles. It associates with condensed chromosome arms and may help maintain chromosome integrity during mitosis. Additionally, it may play a role in the organization of the central spindle prior to cytokinesis. A pseudogene of this gene is located on chromosome X.
