Target Information
Apolipoproteins are protein components of plasma lipoproteins. The apolipoprotein C gene family encodes four homologous proteins (apoC-I to -IV) that modulate the metabolism of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins.
- ApoC-I: Gene located at chromosome 19q13.2, expressed mainly in the liver, activated during monocyte-to-macrophage differentiation.
- ApoC-II: Located at chromosome 19q13.2, encodes a 79 amino acid protein, cofactor for lipoprotein lipase activation.
- ApoC-III: Located at chromosome 11q23, delays catabolism of triglyceride-rich particles by inhibiting lipoprotein and hepatic lipase.
- ApoC-IV: Located at chromosome 19q13.2, encodes a 127 amino acid protein mainly expressed in the liver.
