Target Information
Caspase 7 is a member of the cysteine protease family, divided into apoptotic and inflammatory subfamilies.
- Apoptotic subfamily: Includes initiator and executioner caspases. Caspase 7 acts as an executioner caspase, activated by initiator caspases to cleave cellular substrates leading to cell death.
- Gene characteristics: Alternative splicing of Caspase-7 mRNA produces three distinct isoforms. Caspase-7 activity can be directly inhibited by XIAP expression.
- Associated diseases: Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus 17, Aleutian Mink Disease.
