Target Information
Cytochrome C is an electron transporting protein located in the mitochondrial intermembrane space, essential for oxidative phosphorylation and ATP production. During apoptosis, cytochrome C is released into the cytosol, where it binds apoptotic protease activating factor, triggering procaspase 9 activation. Cytosolic cytochrome C also activates caspase 3, a key effector of apoptosis.
