This antibody detects endogenous levels of total IL-13.
Target Information
IL-13 is an immunoregulatory cytokine produced primarily by activated Th2 cells, involved in regulating inflammatory and immune responses. It down-regulates macrophage activity, inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokine and chemokine production, and plays a role in allergen-induced asthma independent of IgE and eosinophils. IL-13 also influences B cell maturation, up-regulates CD23 and MHC class II expression, and promotes IgE isotype switching. Structurally, IL-13 is similar to IL-3, IL-4, IL-5, and GM-CSF. The IL-13 gene is located on chromosome 5q within a cytokine gene cluster alongside IL3, IL5, IL4, and CSF2.
