Background
Mutations in the TSC2 gene lead to tuberous sclerosis complex. The gene product functions as a tumor suppressor and can stimulate specific GTPases. Tuberin associates with hamartin in a cytosolic complex, possibly acting as a chaperone for hamartin. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
