Background
This gene belongs to the cadherin superfamily. The protein consists of five cadherin repeat domains and a cytoplasmic tail similar to classical cadherins. It is predominantly expressed in the brain and acts as a calcium-dependent cell adhesion molecule, playing a key role in morphogenesis and tissue formation in neural and non-neural cells during brain and neuroendocrine organ development and maintenance.
