Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene shares strong similarity with Saccharomyces cerevisiae protein Cdc27, and the gene product of Schizosaccharomyces pombe nuc 2.
This protein is a component of the anaphase-promoting complex (APC), composed of eight protein subunits highly conserved in eukaryotic cells.
APC catalyzes the formation of cyclin B–ubiquitin conjugates responsible for ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis of B-type cyclins.
Cdc27 and other APC complex members contain the TPR (tetratricopeptide repeat) domain, important for protein–protein interactions.
It interacts with mitotic checkpoint proteins including Mad2, p55CDC, and BUBR1, and may control mitotic timing.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
