Target Information
TRPM8 is a receptor-activated non-selective cation channel involved in detection of sensations such as coolness, activated by cold temperature below 25 °C. It responds to icilin, eucalyptol, menthol, cold, and intracellular pH modulation, and is permeable to Na⁺, K⁺, Cs⁺, and Ca²⁺.
TRPM8 expression is mainly restricted to prostate epithelial cells, moderately expressed in normal prostate tissue, and elevated in prostate cancer. TRPM8 mRNA is also found in certain nonprostatic tumors (breast, colon, lung, skin), but rarely detected in corresponding normal tissues.
