Target Information
This gene encodes a transcriptional regulator belonging to the BET (bromodomains and extra terminal domain) family. The BRD2 protein associates with transcription complexes and acetylated chromatin during mitosis, selectively binding to acetylated lysine-12 of histone H4 via its two bromodomains. It maps to the MHC class II region on chromosome 6p21.3. Although located within this region, BRD2 is not involved in immune response. The gene has been implicated in juvenile myoclonic epilepsy, a form of epilepsy appearing in adolescence. Multiple alternatively spliced variants exist, though some remain incompletely characterized.
