Target Information
The TOP1MT gene encodes a mitochondrial DNA topoisomerase that modulates DNA topology.
This enzyme (type IB topoisomerase) transiently breaks and rejoins DNA strands to relieve tension and supercoiling in the mitochondrial genome during replication and transcription.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene.
