Target Information
The zinc transporter ZIP9 (SLC39A9) is a member of the divalent ion transporter family. Zinc is an essential ion involved in cell growth, development, and differentiation. The zinc transporter family includes four subfamilies (I, II, LIV-1, and gufA). ZIP9 is a multipass membrane protein of subfamily I, localized to the trans-Golgi network, and functions as a zinc homeostasis regulator in the secretory pathway without significantly altering cytosolic zinc levels.
