Target Information
LSD1 is a histone demethylase that specifically demethylates Lys-4 of histone H3, a marker for transcriptional activation, functioning as a corepressor. It contains SWIRM, FAD-binding, and amine oxidase domains. LSD1 acts as part of histone deacetylase complexes and requires RCOR1/CoREST for activity on nucleosomal substrates. It may also demethylate Lys-9 of histone H3, influencing androgen receptor target gene expression. Mutations in this gene are associated with developmental abnormalities such as cleft palate and psychomotor retardation.
